The Trendy Makeup of the 80s Every
decade follows a different trend in fashion. Whether it is the style of
dressing or it is the hair style or it is the makeup, there is a vast
difference if we compare any two different decades. Makeup in 80’s
fashion had its own remarkable features. Stars like Madonna, Brook
Shields were the star icons. Even these days certain serials which are
broadcasted show styles of those times.
In the decade of 80’s the
makeup that was done was extremely loud and bold. In the morning before
leaving for work a full set of makeup was applied. And in order to get
importance at the work place or being taken there seriously, it was
quite necessary. Eyes and cheeks were especially highlighted. If the
makeup in 80’s Fashion era was heavy then the person was noticeable and
was considered good looking. Eye makeup in 80’s was given extreme
importance. In order to give a lasting look of eye shadow a layer of
mica (which is a reflecting thing) were used. Mica was also used in rest
of the body parts like shoulders to give it the glam of glitter. Eye
shadows were used in large quantities and it was used in such a manner
that it covered the full part of eye lid. In fact while using eye shadow
it was taken care that it evenly spreads and covers the whole area. The
eye shadows used were of different colors like orange, green, blue,
brown etc. Eye liner and mascara were also much in use and they were
also present in varieties and colors. The dresses of those times were
also different. The accessories like bangles, black lace fingerless
gloves, and long earrings were the demand of 80’s Fashion. The
fingerless gloves were generally worn in one hand, mainly the right
hand. Makeup in 80’s Fashion era was done with a heavy use of foundation
and compact to make the face look white. It seemed as if the face has
layers of coating of foundation. Lipstick used was of bright fluorescent
colors and were used in thick quantities to make the lips look
prominent. The more heavily the lips were lined the more prestigious it
looked. Hair was curled using curled iron and hair dye of different
colors was also used. Big hair complemented to different styles or
makeup. The outfits that were famous were leg warmers and gym suits. As
80’s were the time in which people had a craze of aerobics and so gym
suit were much in demand. People wanted to look thin that time.

Sunglasses that were used were very big in size and covered maximum part
of the face which made the face look small and those who used glasses
did the eye make-up even more. Cheeks were also highlighted a lot in the
makeup in 80’s fashion era. Bright colored rouge was a must. Makeup in
80’s for men who were actors and the rock stars was also quite
different. There dressing style was also much different from that of
todays. The styling was very popular among the teen agers. It can be
said that the makeup in 80’s was exaggerated and big. It was extremely
bold. In one way it can be said that it looked halfway clownish. Under
the piles of coats of foundation and compacts used, the natural beauty
of the face was completely lost. The colors used in shadows, eye liners
were fluorescent and were available in a wide range from pink to purple
to black. But things began to change in the latter half of 80’s. Then
also make up were done as it was a thing of prestige issue. Hair was
simple. It was either bob cut or long and straight. The trend of hair
band was introduced with bob cut and long hair. Now stress was given on
natural beauty than heavy makeup. It can be said that the makeup in 80’s
were big, bold and bright. |
